EMDR Therapy & Trauma Therapy for Stuart, FL Women

If you’ve been searching for an EMDR therapist in Stuart, FL, you may be the woman everyone counts on. You handle the work deadline, the family schedule and the emergency nobody else saw coming. From the outside, you look fine. Inside, your body still braces for something that already happened. I’m April Forella, LMHC, an EMDR Certified Therapist, and I work with adult women who are tired of being the strong one.

My office isn’t in Stuart. It’s just across the St. Lucie River in Palm City, at 901 SW Martin Downs Blvd., Suite 306, roughly 10–15 minutes from most of Stuart by way of the Palm City Bridge. Sessions happen in person there, in a quiet room where you don’t need to impress anyone. You simply need to show up. That short drive can become a useful buffer, too: a few minutes to settle before a session and a few minutes to land afterward.

An EMDR therapist near Stuart, FL: what the work looks like

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a structured therapy that helps your brain reprocess experiences that still feel stuck. We follow the standard eight-phase protocol, starting with your history and building calming resources before any memory work begins. During processing, I use bilateral stimulation, either eye movements or alternating taps, while you stay present and in control. You can pause anytime, and you don’t have to share every detail. You can read more about each phase on the EMDR therapy page.

You may already understand your story well. You can probably explain exactly why you react the way you do. But knowing why doesn’t always make you feel different. EMDR works on the level where the alarm actually lives, in the nervous system. The goal isn’t to erase your memories. It’s to help those experiences have less power over your present. If a specific event, a painful relationship or years of childhood stress is what you’re carrying, my trauma therapy page explains how that work unfolds.

Anxiety, people-pleasing and the pressure to keep it all together

Not everyone who looks for an EMDR therapist describes what happened to them as trauma. Some women simply notice a constant hum of worry, a body that never quite relaxes, or a habit of saying yes long after they meant to say no. Those patterns often have roots, and EMDR, combined with CBT, somatic work and emotional-regulation skills, can help address the roots instead of only managing the symptoms. Together we notice where the pattern lives in your body, too.

If you’re a professional, a mom or a helper in Stuart who keeps everyone else afloat, therapy can be the one hour where nobody needs anything from you. My work centers on therapy for women, and the concerns below are among the most common reasons women reach out. If you recognize yourself in more than one, that’s normal; they tend to travel together, and we can sort out where to begin during your first sessions.

  • Anxiety, overthinking and a mind that won’t switch off at night
  • People-pleasing, guilt and trouble holding boundaries
  • Trauma, PTSD and childhood experiences that still echo
  • Perfectionism and a harsh inner critic
  • Feeling like “the strong one” with no one to lean on

What to expect: first call to first session

It starts with a free phone consultation. You’ll share a little about what’s bringing you in, ask whatever you need to ask, and we’ll decide together whether working with me feels like a good fit. I’m available Monday through Friday by appointment, and I reply to messages within 24–48 business hours. If it’s a fit, we schedule your first session in Palm City and I send intake paperwork ahead of time so you can walk in prepared.

Weekly sessions are $200 for 60 minutes or $400 for a 2-hour session, and self-pay clients receive a Good Faith Estimate under the No Surprises Act. If weekly therapy is hard to fit around your schedule, EMDR Intensives offer focused, longer blocks of time: $1,350 for one 3-hour day, $2,025 for two days, or $2,700 for three. Intensives are private pay; the EMDR Intensive cost page breaks down what’s included.

Stuart questions

EMDR therapy near Stuart: FAQs

Other nearby areas

Is there an EMDR therapist near Stuart, FL?

Yes. April Forella, LMHC, is an EMDR Certified Therapist through EMDRIA, the EMDR International Association. Her office is in neighboring Palm City at 901 SW Martin Downs Blvd., Suite 306, which is roughly 10–15 minutes from most of Stuart. She offers weekly EMDR therapy as well as half-day to multi-day EMDR Intensives, all in person in Palm City, for adult women.

How long is the drive from Stuart to the Palm City office?

For most of Stuart it’s about 10–15 minutes. The most direct route is west on SE Monterey Rd (SR-714) across the Palm City Bridge, where the road continues as SW Martin Downs Blvd. If you’re coming from Port Salerno or Hutchinson Island, allow a bit more time, especially around rush hour or when traffic is backed up on US-1.

Do you accept insurance for Stuart clients?

April’s practice is private pay, with weekly sessions at $200 for 60 minutes and a Good Faith Estimate before you begin. Private pay lets you choose the format that fits, from 60-minute sessions to 2-hour extended sessions or intensives. If your health plan includes out-of-network benefits, April can provide a superbill to submit for partial reimbursement of weekly or extended sessions, so check your plan first. EMDR Intensives are private pay.

I already see a therapist in Stuart. Can I still do EMDR with you?

Often, yes. An EMDR Intensive can be done alongside your current therapist, so you don’t have to give up a relationship that’s working. The intensive gives you concentrated time on one specific issue, and the 90-minute follow-up 1–2 weeks later helps you take what you’ve processed back into your ongoing care. The free consultation is a good place to talk through whether that fits.

Do you offer telehealth for Stuart clients?

April’s practice is primarily in person in Palm City, and EMDR Intensives are in person only. Telehealth may be possible for Florida residents when it’s clinically appropriate. Since Stuart is so close to the office, most clients find in-person sessions easy to manage, but you’re welcome to ask about telehealth during your free consultation.
